Hey everyone, have you all noticed that the AutumnMasquerade blog is now private? I loved reading her blog with all of the gorgeous pictures and frequent reviews. Does anyone know why it's now private? I tried to email her but so far no response.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas & have a Happy New Year!

Majolica Majorca & Shu Uemura Spring 2010!

From Rouge Deluxe. (pics in the link) Majolica Majorca is releasing a limited edition foundation case, pore primer, 2 new eyeshadow palettes [that look quite meh in my opinion], a couple of nail polishes and lipglosses, a new mascara and mascara primer.

Shu Uemura--It looks promising. Not like I'd buy the entire collection but it does look pretty.
Japanese website update here.

Collection consists of 3 variations of a duo cream eyeshadow (not packaged like Fall 2008 was, thank god), colors in taupe and light blue, gold-pewter and a lighter white, and a silvery color with purple. New false eyelashes, metallic black and silver gel liners [not sure if this is new or just repromo'ed], what looks like a twist up cream complexion product [a la Shiseido's rouge sticks] in a silvery highlighting color and a cooler raspberry color, 2 glow ons in M31A and M43B [they look like cooler colors], 3 lipsticks [of which one is PK322] and 3 nail polishes; light blue, light pink & a black with silver sparkles.

What I'm looking at: Complexion product in the highlighting color, the eyeshadow duo in taupe+light blue or silver + purple, & the black with silver glitter nail polish!
I'm looking at

Thoughts on Chanel Spring 2010

I must admit that I have no photos for you today because when I was at the mall it was already very dark outside : /. However, Lina at The Beauty Look Book has beautiful photos that I will link you to here.

Lets start with the much talked about quad 18, Kaska Beige. It's DEFINETLY worth all the talk you've heard! It's gorgeous, not too shimmery, pigmented, silky. Soo pretty. It's got a creamy beige [more satin I think], a golden sand color, a plummy medium brown and an absolutely beautiful chocolate brown color. It might actually make me cross some MAC things off my list and go for this instead.

The new Jous Contraste blush Imprevu reminded me [before I saw it] of the one they released last spring, Fandango. Wrong! Imprevu is more peachy/tawny, where Fandango is more rosey bronze. I thought Imprevu was very shimmery and could go a bit dirty on lighter skintones, but for medium skins it should work perfectly.

The next much talked about item was the new face powder, Empreinte de Chanel Poudre Eclat Illuminatrice. It's very pretty and has a nice design that doesn't fade for quite some uses, but I found that there was a bit of glitter [not even that big, but I love my shu uemura barely noticeable glow ons] that I didn't like. It's golden!

The two single eyeshadows are all so pretty and great quality. There was Trace, a dark warm brown, and Sillage, a lighter pinky frosted nude.

There is also a new Ombre D'eau, liquid shadow in Torrent. It's a beautiful smokey olived green, leaning to the warm side. Chanel describes it as khaki.

The new glossimers were pretty but also very sheer. I have my eye on Maline though, a gold shimmer. The other one is Futile, the pink counterpart to Maline.

I didn't see the lipsticks or the nail polishes as I went by very quickly, but this collection is really tempting me to pick up my first Chanel!

New in Hair Care: Conair Release & Fekkai News

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard about this, Conair’s Infiniti Cord-Keeper Styler, whose big selling point is the retractable cord of the hair dryer. (I think this is interesting, but haven't hotels already been a big pioneer in this field with all of their wall mounted, retractable cord AND folding hair dryers?? The handle of one I've seen folds inwards towards the dryer part, in case anyone was curious.)

In addition to saving space, it's supposed to fight frizz and reduce static electricity.
Quick facts:
Cool shot

3 heat/2 speed settings

Removable filter

Concentrator

Diffuser

Limited three-year warranty

Unit weight: 2.75 lbs

Fekkai News:
First reported by Specktra:

"Frédéric Fekkai parent P&G announced today that the Fekkai "classics" consisting of the Glossing, Full Volume and Technician Color lines will be merchandised at Walgreens and Target stores starting next year. The prestige Fekkai Advanced line will still only be available through high end stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.

When the announcement to move to mass market with the Classic line was made by P&G Sephora immediately issued a statement that they are dropping the brand from stores and will carry it for a short time as a courtesy to customers. Shoppers will be able to purchase products through March 2010 in stores and then online only through September 2010 after which the brand will be phased out completely from Sephora."

Buying 20$ plus hair products at the drugstore? Are you sure, P&G, that many women will take the plunge? And no more Sephora? I'm not sure that you made a smart move...

Paul & Joe & Maquillag, Ipsa, Shiseido Spring 2010

From A Touch of Blusher:

Maquillage & Paul & Joe. Ipsa & Shiseido.

The Paul and Joe face powders in my opinion look quite blah and I'm not feeling the gloss lacquers, even in the cute pot packaging. A collection I can safely skip, with the rest of the special packaging pieces very expensive.

Maquillage 2010 looks decent, with a little extra sparkle embossed onto the shadows, though I do wish that they'd stop including creams in their eyeshadow palettes....They're launching more lip liners, eye liners & lipsticks. Pretty average Japanese spring collection.

IPSA looks very prettily packaged, and those bright nail colors are calling to me.

Shiseido looks promising, with new shades of eyeshadow, 2 new lines of lipstick, lipgloss and blush. The eyeshadow in my opinion is nothing special though.

Good & Bad News For MAC 2010

From our leading MAC experts at Specktra:

"

Let's recap what we know first:

Warm and Cozy is a two part collection releasing in just three short weeks on December 26th, also releasing that day are Love Lace and Studio Fix Lash.

Now for what 2010 is bringing MAC fanatics:

In January MAC babes and gents usher the new year in with All Ages, All Races, All Sexes and MAC in Lillyland both making their debut on January 7th.

February is a month that many have been openly speculating will host a large anniversary collection. We're here to give you the straight dish. Now this may hurt a bit, especially if you were looking forward to what the rumor mill was circulating. There will be NO anniversary collection, our source has it that the Anniversary collection (rumored to be HK revisited) has been nixed and will be replaced by a month long Spring Color Forecast which is a 4 part collection that will have a release a week for entire month.

Also releasing in February (a short, but important month that seems to be packed full) are Mineralize Foundation (cream compact) and Riveting sharing a counter on 2/18 with Tabloid Beauty launching later in the month on 2/25.

March brings spring weather and an exciting mix of collections with Too Fabulous launching 3/4, Give me Liberty of (or?) London on 3/11 - and the collection we are DYING to see high resolution promo images for - Viva Glam New Camp aka From Our Lips featuring Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper making a flaming debut on counters 3/18. While we wait for those images to surface, here is a description of the shoot based on an excerpt from an interview - while describing her busy schedule in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, author Brian Hiatt said: ”… [In New York] she’ll shoot a M.A.C. Cosmetics campaign with [Cyndi] Lauper…” Later in the article, he describes a photoshoot where “…Marilyn Monroe is singing Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend on a photo-studio sound system, and Lady Gaga and a youthful-looking Cyndi Lauper are straddling giant pink lipstick tubes as flashbulbs pop.” They’re wearing near-matching Jetsons-style red dresses. Ohh, so exciting!

April continues to excite with Art Supplies a two part collection starting the month off right on 4/1, Prep for Colour launches on 4/8 (either of the former two collections MAY be the "pop" collection that has already leaked online). My sisters birthday 4/22 celebrates two collections with intriguing names Pret-a-Papier and Opulash. Oooh lala I can't wait to see what those two reveal. Opulash sounds like a new mascara formula or fabulous falsies.

The last month we have initial information for is May, which only has two collections that we know of so far, Superglass (a new gloss formula perhaps?!) on 5/6, and a two part summer spectacular called To The Beach launching 5/8.

What we don't know:

There is no word yet on if there will be a MAC Disney Villains collection. Right now there is no supporting information what so ever that this collection will happen in the first half of the year. Of course, since we have no idea what's happening after May yet is IS possible that something could happen with the rumored collection in the second half of the year.

Also an unknown at this point is the rumored Vivenne Westwood designer collection. HOWEVER don't give up hope as Designer collaborations have historically launched in the Fall.

That wraps up the latest dish from Specktra HQ. We hope that you will enjoy speculating on what these collections bring us MAC addicts with us. You can definitely imagine how exciting it is to await the release of these beauties as 2010 moves along and we see what they have in store for our vanities.

If you'd like to participate in collection discussions, or simply stay up to date on the latest dish join us in Specktra's own Color Collection sub-forum!"

WAIT WAIT WAIT...WHAT? Oh my GOD, no MAC for Disney villians? There goes all the money I've been saving up! This has got to be the most disappointed I've been in awhile for MAC. It's okay though because the collections to replace it sound average-good..

Preview: RMK, Beaute De Kose & Visee Spring 2010

Wombat at Blushed Wombat has got the scoop and press released pics of RMK 2010! It looks pretty but also a bit bland, boring...

Kose is focusing on beige themes this year, sounds boring but I don't think so! Beaute de Kose is going to be releasing three new beige shades to Eye Fantasist this spring and Visee is coming out with new palettes! Hit up Haru at Rouge Deluxe for deets!

What are you looking forward to?

Review: Estee Lauder Doublewear Mascara

(please note, this is not a full sized product, but rather a sample).

Someone gave me this sample of Doublewear mascara quite awhile ago, but I only just pulled it out to use. After a week or so of testing, I'm ready to write a review.

Doublewear is touted to be a lengthening and no smudge mascara. The full size version of this product retails for 19.50$ USD and comes in black or brown.

How did it do? It started out pretty well, if boring. This is a definite 'natural' mascara--meaning that I'd recommend this to anyone who didn't want anything dramatic. It did lengthen, as you will see in the following pictures, but people who saw an eye makeup look with this mascara said: I think adding mascara would make this look more glamorous! Ouch!

Estee Lauder claims this mascara creates 'extraordinary length' that will last the whole day. It doesn't "wilt" as some mascaras can, but you have to keep your eyes open for a bit longer than I'm used to while waiting for this mascara to dry. It also doesn't create EXTRAordinary length, but just a little bit longer.

This doesn't make my lashes feel stiff, more feathery. Its a very gentle formula, especially when taking it off. It came off almost like a tube mascara! You just need a bit of cleanser and water and rub and most of it should come off. It's not exactly waterproof in that regard, but should hold up to a light drizzle of rain.

The pigment on this mascara is sort of dull. It claims to be glossy and rich in pigment, but falls flat on both accounts. Definitely not the darkest mascara out there! I can never tell the difference between a mascara that claims to be glossy and one that doesn't either, to be honest.

Doublewear's wand is small and skinny, with dense bristles as pictured below. I can't really get to the inner or outer corners of my eyes but that's okay because I don't look for that in a mascara.

Natural eye:
Doublewear'ed eye:

I will continue to use this, but only because I don't really want to waste it. It'll be a nice change from the harsh waterproof [yet dramatic] mascara that I'm currently using, but I certainly won't be dropping 20 bucks on it. Mediocre at its best.

NOTD: China Glaze Emerald Sparkle

This is one of the most beautiful green shades out in nail lacquer right now. In fact, I'm going to call it THE most beautiful green. It's one of China Glaze's famous sparkly, almost but not quite glittery shades -- a la their famous Wizard of Ooh Ahz collection. I will let the pictures speak for themselves:

Beautiful. Anyone else out there loving greens? This is one of the only greens I like on me!

Quick news about the newest MAC Viva Glam

Here's the latest information left by Rob on Temptalia's Viva Glam post on Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga's lipsticks:

" I’ve seen the visual in one of our PR booklets at work, in relatively large scale (a full A4 page) and the Gaga shade looks like St Germain / Snob but more Amplified or Cremesheen in texture and the Cyndi shade is reminiscent of Red She Said lippy, but a little more plummed-out perhaps? They are both limited life colours (not an official VG #7) on counter for 12-months (like the rotating semi-permanent mineralise eyeshadows). Words cannot describe how flippin’ excited I am about having Gaga theme days at work in April (Aust release date is April 12th)! "

They don't excite me at all! I think I'd be better off hunting for that Fergie Viva Glam 5 that I never got to pick up. What about you?

Review: Lavshuca Eye Color Duo in PU-1

I posted pictures of this very pretty duo a few weeks ago and began to use it as everyone was asking for reviews. When I tested these duos in store while in Asia, they seemed buttery, pigmented and perfect. They even swatched well......but sadly didn't apply that great.
Look how gorgeous that purple is! It matches with the golden champagne color well, and it was the only reason I chose this duo over the other, rather drab color choices. I am pleased to say that the texture of both was pigmented and silky and shimmery with bits of glitter shot through.

My highest hopes had been for the purple, but it wound up being the champagne gold color that wowed me. It turned more golden once applied and really brightened my eyes. The purple though...it turned a drab mauve tinged grey once applied. (I used sponge applicators for higher color intensity, I find brushes don't work that well with Japanese drugstore eyeshadows).

The shadows lasted through a day with Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base with minimal creasing on my oily lids.

The packaging is minimal, with the burgundy wine color that I've come to associate with Lavshuca. It's quietly elegant and I like that it has a clear windows so I can tell what color it is.

I bought this for about 7$ retail price in Asia.

The bottom line: it's a good starter duo, especially for the golden shade, but if you have a stash like me, don't bother with it.

Pics: Preview Spring 2010 Collections

Whoa--quick roundup of sneak peeks of top makeup brands around the web! (mostly from britishbeautyblogger.blogspot.com).

Michael Kors for Estee Lauder (Didn't even know about this! Looks gorgeous.) Source Here. And here's another picture.

Paul & Joe Alice In Wonderland Here. Looks great, though I think I preferred the original Disney collection.

Dior Lacy Beauty Here. Inspired by 1920's lingerie and Christian Dior's love of lace. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS! The 2nd quad is looking very gorgeous, as is the packaging. Not to mention its looking like a large collection, so there must be something for everyone!

March 18's MAC Viva Glam From Our lips campaign, featuring Lady Gaga (I totally saw that coming) and Cyndi Lauper.

From WWD:
"Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga have been named the latest faces of the MAC AIDS Fund. The newest campaign, dubbed “From Our Lips,” will break on Feb. 25. MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick and Viva Glam Cyndi Lipstick, $14 each, will launch in North America on March 18 and globally throughout the month, with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to the MAC AIDS Fund. The MAC AIDS Fund has invested more than $150 million to organizations in more than 67 countries since its founding in 1994."

I really liked the Fergie Viva Glam SE even though I never got around to buy it. I hope I can swap for it though, and I'm excited to see what colors (and if they're limited edition!) they're creating next.

Also note that word on the street is that MAC is coming nout with a Disney Villains collection for their big February collection!

Clinique's 2010 Juiced Up Colour Here. Nothing to write home about.

Yves Saint Laurent Spring here. Looks pretty but their palettes always seem to fall short.

Guerlain's absolutely beautiful spring collection here. Cherry blossom, and I love the imprints they always use on the quads. The blush is looking pretty, because I know I can't wear pink on my eyes.

Lancome's Make Up O My Rose spring collection inspired by the 1960's here. This is looking gorgeous too, I LOVE Aaron de Mey. They're spring collection last year was beautiful too but as pinks are so hard for me to pull off, I had to skip.

My picks:

Guerlain, MAC, Dior, Lancome and Estee Lauder (ish). However, Guerlain and MAC have a tendency to fall a bit short, here's to hoping that these collections will be winners. Estee Lauder looks pretty nice too but it's not calling to me personally. I will be following news on these collections very intently!

What are your top picks?

Review: Illamasqua Cry Eyeshadow

Illamasqua. Makeup for your alter ego. One year old British makeup sensation that made it's way across the pond a few months ago.

It's got a lot of hype to live up to, thanks to Youtubers in Britain. Does it live up to it?

..not the eyeshadow, at least.
Cry is a cool medium pink that has alot of blue in it. At first I was wary (this was won in a giveaway overseas) of the color, but gave it a try anyways.

Illamasqua. Makeup for your alter ego. One year old British makeup sensation that made it's way across the pond a few months ago.

It's got a lot of hype to live up to, thanks to Youtubers in Britain. Even more by their eyeshadows' description:

Bring a room to its knees without saying a word. Each of these glorious colours makes a statement that's as individual as you are. Highly pigmented, these long-lasting colors ensure all-night intensity. Experiment and be bold.

Does it live up to it?

..not the eyeshadow, at least.
Cry is a cool MATTE medium pink that has alot of blue in it. At first I was wary (this was won in a giveaway overseas) of the color and the finish (LOVE shimmer...wary of mattes) but gave it a try anyways.
Well...it's okay. Mediocre. People were saying how it totally rivaled MAC (didn't crease like MAC on me.....but I don't mind how MAC creases) and shu. Uh....this formula might be able to beat out MAC's old matte formula (but Matte2 totally destroys Illamasqua), but shu uemura still reigns supreme for me! The formula on Cry felt a bit chalky and powdery, nothing like the buttery textures of MAC Matte2. When I swatched it, I needed to build up 3 layers to get the intensity you see in the pic above.

That's alright, I thought. Alot of shadows apply better on the lids right? Well I had to apply 2 layers of Cry to get it to show and, to my horror, it took on a distinctly warm fuschia feel. What?? Yeah, fuschia. Yuck...I can definetly tell you it didn't look too great.

But the color is something that I can change, so lets talk more about the formula. It was kind of dry, and like I said before, a bit chalky and had a 'dusty' feel to it. It doesn't do the brighter color any justice, so I expect the neutral colors will be better. I'm very curious about the shimmer eyeshadows especially.

The packaging is shiny black, which does attract alot of fingerprints (SO annoying!) But unlike NARS packaging, there is a clear window embossed with their logo (and if you tilt it, it looks like there's a logo under it!). I like the window so you can see the color quickly. The sides of the square are pushed in, like if you played with a soft candy chew and pressed in.

Illamasqua eyeshadow retail 20$ for .07 oz.

My first foray into Illamasqua doesn't leave me terribly impressed, but I am eager to try their lipgloss, foundations/primers and blush and reserve judgement until then.
