Feeling Under The Weather...

Hi guys! I'm so sorry but I won't be able to post for awhile. The first reason is that at the moment I have a 102 degree fever...and the second is that I'll be taking a trip in a few days, that lasts for a few days and I won't have internet access.

I hope to be posting as soon as I can, maybe coming back in a week. For those of you who read my blog daily, I'm sorry that I won't have any new material for you to catch up on.

Again, I'll be back as soon as I can!

Simply Stila--Stila's New Drugstore Line

Link to original article here.

[taken from link]
"Lynn Tilton, who recently took over as CEO of luxury make-up brand Stila, recently announced plans to introduce an inexpensive line called Simply Stila to help consumers look great during the credit crunch. It’s obvious in pretty much every industry that consumers are being quite a bit more frugal with their cash, so this is a no-brainer move by Tilton and Stila.

According to Tilton, “I’ll be creating a new mass line, called Simply Stila. Of course this won’t be a $2.99 brand, but we think we can definitely retail for, say, $7.99 or $8.99. My dream for Stila is to become a base for a larger cosmetics platform. It is right out of the gates at this point, but everything we are doing is with the consumer in mind. It’s all about reaching the consumers, especially in this economy. We want to reduce the middleman and retailers and go directly to the consumer.”

Meanwhile, Lynn says the main collection - which has a host of celebrity fans, including Katherine Heigl, Kate Hudson and Lindsay Lohan - is going from strength to strength. “It has a great name, it is a superb brand and it has a tremendous talent pool. My favourite Stila product is the Bronzing Tinted Moisturizer, I think! Although everyone asks me that question I’m still getting to know Stila. I also love the 24k Lip Gloss and I use the Smudgepots all the time on my eyes.”"

What do you think? I'm not so sure about this. I'm afraid it might 'cheapen' the brand image, and if you're going to sell at 7.99-8.99 prices, what about the ingredients? Will you be coming out with seasonal collections too?

What's your take on the sitch?

Review: Besame Classic Line Lipstick

It's a real pity that the Classic Besame line is no longer available. There were so many fantastic products, and, while I know the line isn't sold at their website anymore [but their new lipsticks are up!], apparently you can still find them at some brick and mortar stores. Of course, there's always the chance of Ebay and Swap, so I thought I'd do a review anyways.

Firstly, I have to say that these retailed for 18$ apiece. But look at them! It's TINY! It's barely the length of my pinky, and it's shorter than a MAC lipstick! Jeez. So far, not so good for Besame lipsticks, that are so tiny. But I LOVE the packaging, as it comes in a lux red velvet pouch and the lipstick container itself is made of weighty golden metal, embossed with red designs. Here is a link to the lovely Karlasugar's blog which has guest swatcher Rina's swatches of all the Besame Classic lipstick: Here. There is also a MAC / Besame lipstick size comparision.

Packaging:

More Size Comparision:

The color I have, Besame Red, is a gorgeous, retro blue matte red. I really liked it, but as it is brighter than MAC Port Red [which I already consider very bright!], and more blue-based, it really didn't look good on me in my opinion. I however, LOVED the vanilla scented formula that was weightless, not drying at all and so comfortable to wear. I wish I could get my hands on Potrait Pink, as the rest of the colors don't suit me!
Comparisions between the 3 red lipsticks I own [above].

As you can see, these lipsticks are BRIGHT! They are PIGMENTED! Besame Red is a great red but not for the shy! They fade evenly and last a long time.

How Besame Red looked on me:

Overall, I really hope to get my hands on another Besame lipstick, as I loved the formula and pigmentation, but swapped away Besame Red because I didn't feel comfortable with the bright color. I would recommend these lipsticks for people looking for full coverage and lasting lipsticks. I advise you to go on a hunt for these lipsticks as soon as you can, as who knows what the new ones are like, and you may never see these again!

NEW: The New Besame Site Is Up!

View it here. She only has put up a set of three lipsticks, and I don't think you can order them yet, but the new site looks great! I have to say I prefer the old packaging though.

You probably can't read the descriptions--they are:

Red: A sophisticated and vibrant warm red with a satin finish. Perfect for day or night.

Pink: A soft and luminous pink with a glossy finish. Flatters most skintones.

Champagne: A modern and sensuous neutral with a touch of shimmer and a warm buttery base. Glossy finish.

More info [taken from the Besame site link above]:

Our Voluptuous Lip Colour Set contains everything needed to create gorgeous, sensuous lips. Each lipstick delivers smooth, feather-proof coverage and contains a mineral stain that locks in colour for extraordinary long-lasting wear. At the heart of the lipstick's formula is a special mix of rose waxes and flower essences that provide a unique silky softness to the lips. A proprietary blend of ingredients promotes cell renewal and natural fullness. Aloe, green tea and botanical oils add antioxidant protection and soothing qualities to the lips. When used daily, your lips will stay incredibly healthy, moisturized, and strikingly voluptuous.

Each Voluptuous Lip Colour set contains:

  • A pigment rich Voluptuous Lip Colour lipstick encased in a high gloss enamel tube
  • A velvety travel sleeve for the lipstick
  • A matching automatic lip pencil
  • A hand crafted lipstick brush ergonomically designed to fit perfectly between your thumb and forefinger for a precise application.
  • A detailed lipstick application guide
Our Voluptuous Lip Colour Set may be used in a variety of ways:
  • Use the lipstick in combination with the lip pencil for perfectly shaped, feather-proof lips.
  • Apply the lipstick alone for soft, healthy, moisturized lips.
  • Use the pencil in combination with a clear gloss or lip glaze for shiny lips with a long-lasting touch of colour.
  • Wear the pencil alone for lips with a deep stain of colour in a matte finish.

Infused with natural ingredients to protect and nourish the lips; paraben and petrolatum free. Voluptuous Lip Colour lipstick delivers the exceptional color and long-lasting wear you expect from Besame. It’s quite simply the perfect lipstick.

Sounds very cool! What do you think? Prefer the old line, or new? Will you be indulging in Besame's new lipsticks?

EOTD: Slightly Smokey Golden Olive

What I used:

LM Black Caviar eyeliner
MAC Golden Olive pigment
MAC Night Light pigment
and a random black shadow

New Additions

Hey guys! I've added some stuff to the blog over a couple of weeks or so--here's just me pointing 'em out if you haven't noticed already.

Firstly, there's the DISCLAIMER to the right, underneath those two polls! Take a look at it if you want, it just says that I don't get free stuff from companies and I write what I think, even if I got it free or not, etc etc.

Then, there's the new CHATBOX right under 'MY FOLLOWERS'! [By the way, my followers have hit 25, yay! Thanks to everyone who reads my babbles!] You can leave anything you want in the chatbox, comments, questions...etc.

Next, there's a TRANSLATOR!! I'm not exactly sure if it works all that well, let me know though! I want to hear feedback and if I should change it--and if I do, what program to change it to!

There's also alot of various blogs that have made it onto my blogroll, but that's pretty much all the changes I've done. What d'you think of them?

Comparision: Berry Lipgloss

When MAC Quick Tease came out in the Brunette Blonde Redhead collection, everyone was saying that it was a dupe for the hot seller Jampacked [Cult of Cherry]. I didn't have Jampacked at the time, so I couldn't verify that, but now I do!

MAC Quick Tease on the bottom, Jampacked on the top [first pic

The last one shows the differences more accurately; Jampacked is more red and pigmented while Quick Tease is more wearable and has gold shimmer. Hope that helps!

EOTD: Featuring Zonk Bleu!

What I Used:
Imju Fiberwig
MAC Dazzlelight [top left]
MAC Zonk Bleu! [top right]
MAC Plumage [bottom left]
The other color in the quad is Blue Pigment.

Review: Kose Cosmeport Softymo Medicated White Cleansing Wash

Super long name eh? This latest skin care review is courtesy of Kose Cosmeport Softymo, a drugstore brand widely available in Japan. The face wash is supposed to whiten and clear skin of acne. Does it live up to it's promise?

No.
But not to start the review off on a depressing note! (Haha). This face wash is packaged in a generous 190g or 6.7oz for about 8USD. [Keep in mind though that I got this at my Mitsuwa, which jacks up the prices of everything notoriously]. So far, so good. It's hygeinic--love the little insert thingy in the cap that prevents the product from exploding if accidentally squishing the tube.
There's the back! Made in Japan, obviously.

The texture of this is liquidy cream. It's white with some luminescence--I'm not sure why! Maybe to help with the 'whitening'? It's a bit thick, but easily lathers up. Once I wash it off, it leaves no residue but a tight feeling. Yuck! It can also remove some makeup--not hardcore mascara or eye shadow though.

I don't feel that my skin is whiter [I didn't buy this product for that claim anyways], and I regard such products as a load of bogus.
With water--lathered.
So why don't I like it? Well, the tight feeling for starters. But I've put up with the Shiseido FT citrus wash that left a tight feeling, so that is actually OK with me. It's the fact that after I've used this for a few weeks, I've started to get bumps. They aren't pimples--in certain light you can't even see it--but it's under my skin and I can feel it. People have suggested that they are clogged pores or milia--either one, I'm trying to get rid of it now. I do NOT recommend this, as it seems to have damaged my skin, not cleared it up.

Steer clear.

PSA: MAC Mineralize Shadows Repromote?

I was at my MAC store at the other day, and in the Mineralize shadows displays was Sea & Sky, Play on Plums, Engaging, and Fresh Green Mix! Weird! These were released in July last year--they can't still be there as they're already at CCOs! What's the deal? I also saw a huge box labeled Fresh Green Mix & Play on Plums in a cabinet. Are these being repromoted? I have no clue. I was dying to get out of there as the ladies paid me no attention at all and I was very irritated. I can't think that they are being repromoted so soon, and because there is Color Craft this July!

What do you think?

I've Been Tagged!

By Innerchild! View her blog here.

So I'll go along with it!

Rules:
1. Respond and rework: Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.
2. Tag eight other people.

What is your current obsession?
Makeup [obviously] and clothes/shoes. I probably am not the best at making them flow together but I love going shopping!

What is your weirdest obsession?
The color yellow! I have yellow shoes, eyeshadows, nail polishes, tanks, and am currently looking for a nice yellow bag. People always look at me oddly! :D

What are you wearing today?
A tank top and dark slim jeans.

What's your favorite comfort food?
Japanese udon noodles!! For the win!

What would make today special?
If I could magically come up with a few hundred items I need to donate for a charity!

What would you like to learn to do?
To become more creative, how to sew, properly understand men [ = . = ], to text really quickly, create makeup!

What's the last thing you bought?
MAC Prep + Prime Refined Zone.

What are you listening to right now?
Secret Crowds - Angels & Airwaves.

What is your favorite weather?
Sunny, but enough wind that it doesn't feel too hot. No rain!

What is your most challenging goal right now?
Struggling to live up to my family's over the top reputation; this includes academics, out of school work, hobbies, etc.

What do you think about the person who tagged you?
Innerchild is so sweet! She also has a great personality and awesome taste in makeup! :D

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Either Tokyo...or London...or Paris...Maybe San Diego...or possibly Chicago? New York? I can't make up my mind, I love traveling so much!

If you could swap lives with anyone for one day who would it be and why?
A celebrity, so I could see if it was really all that!

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Taiwan! I'd first eat, then go crazy shopping and swatching!

What would you like to have in your hands at right now?
As I said before, a LOT of items for donation!

Which language do you wanna learn?
I want to properly learn French, my verbs are totally messed up [I blame it on the teacher, but I should attempt to learn it on my own]. I would also like to learn Spanish and Japanese, and properly learn Chinese as well [American born Chinese...it's hard for natives to understand our sayings when translated directly from English so I usually just don't talk at all!]

What do you look for in a friend?
Loyalty above all. Also, they have to be able to trust me and me them, and a great sense of humor.

Who do you want to meet in person?
This is hard! I think I would like to meet President Obama, the Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit, and J.K. Rowling. My mind just went blank!

Alternative, Rock, catchy dance floor songs, hip hop, and a bit of country [Taylor Swift!]

I think my dream job would to be an author.

If you had $100 now what would you spend on it?
Makeup! And maybe a new top from Abercrombie & Fitch.

Things you wish you could change in the past?
I think that if I changed anything, it would be so different to me now, that I should just move on from those.

Fashion Pet Peeve?
Really short shorts. I think they just make the girl look like they work the corners!

Do you admire anyone's style?
Not any particular person. I would mix a few up though.

Describe your personal style.
I'm always wearing tank tops, skinny jeans, some shorts & nice tops. More formal wise, I prefer dresses that give off a more 'fresh' vibe.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor?
Baskin Robbins Cherry!

What's your favorite makeup brand?
Shu uemura! And also MAC, just because of all the variety.

What makeup do you use a lot?
Mascara, always.

Do you get enough beauty sleep? Yes or no? Why?
Yes, I stay up late but I make up for it when I wake up at 11 AM :X.

Why did you start your (beauty) blog?
I had a bunch of swatches that I wanted to put in one place. Also, the facts about Makeupalley's administrators tightening the nooses on so much made me not want to post my reviews there anymore.

What do you think is the best feature about yourself?
I've gotten alot of compliments on my eyes and lips. I wish I had a crease though [I have a monolid]. I would have to say my height.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
I have to say...the Caribbean! It's always so beautiful there and amazing weather, as well as super friendly locals.

What do you like least about yourself?
I
think I should lose a bit of weight!

I tag...

Review: Jill Stuart Eye Jelly

I'm sure many of you had spotted the initial pictures / preview swatches of Jill Stuart Eye Jelly in Amethyst Mauve 19 many weeks [months?] ago. I mentioned then that I was on the fence about it, but I suppose I have decided to keep it, after some deliberation. And here is the full review!
First off, the packaging. Jill Stuart is famous for having ultra-cute, princessy packaging, all clear and mirrors and elaborate designs. As you can see above, Eye Jelly comes in a clear pot, embossed with 'Jill Stuart' on the side in 3 places, and is covered by a mirrored, faceted lid with a cursive J in the middle. The lid has 8 sides, but the top is cut so it looks like a jewel. Can you say pretty? Definitely an item you can leave out on your vanity. Clear labels on the bottom so you can see the color & name if you choose to store this upside down!

This is a really unique product in terms of texture. It is indeed like jelly--you can probably tell from the picture above--as it's like squishy, but firm. Weird! I really love it though. But one downside is that the formula is a bit hard to control--one little blob of jelly is ultra pigmented, and you need to blend well or it'll look goopy!

The Eye Jelly lasts well, and it doesn't crease over a full day. The one thing that's making me reach for this less is the ultra shimmer. You can see them in the swatches below. Seriously Jill Stuart, I do NOT want my lids to look like a Disco Ball! [they do anyways when I wear this!]. It would be bearable if the glitter stayed put, but it falls all over my face, mostly when I use powder shadows over this [even though it performs as a great base].

Swatches/ Comparisions:

In the last picture, you can see how the formula tends to 'goop up' at the top of the swatch. Then I sheered it out, so that's how sheer it can go.
It's good that I can layer these [even at risk of looking like I'm going clubbing...the shimmer builds up!] because I can make it look more brown [sheerer] or more taupey silver [more layers].

A note: When using these, to have most success and less wastage of product, use your fingers. And don't swipe--pat them on, or you'll be left with the glitters! And, like all Jill Stuart products [well, some of them have a fruity scent], this is scented with rose. I can't detect the smell upon application, so it vanishes quickly.

Jill Stuart Eye Jellies retail for roughly 23$USD, and come in 16 shades, with two limited edition ones for spring 2009. But they are being revamped for Summer 2009 and will then come in 10 shades. I will write a new review when I purchase the new ones, as there seems to be a rather tempting purple coming soon!

Haul: Some Long-Time Half Dead Lemmings

Hi All! So, to continue from my Cosmetics Company Store post yesterday, here's what I got. Usually I buy the things that I sort of liked when they were released but then got pushed to the back of my mind at the CCO. Those are:

So Ceylon MSF [Mineralize, October 2008]
Li' Hot Pepper Lipglass [Electroflash, July 2008]

View the pics [they look so perfectly summery!]:

I also got a Mother's Day gift for my mom! I decided to make a quad out of:
MAC Shore Leave [Naughty Nauticals, May 2008]
