Quick news about the newest MAC Viva Glam

Here's the latest information left by Rob on Temptalia's Viva Glam post on Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga's lipsticks:

" I’ve seen the visual in one of our PR booklets at work, in relatively large scale (a full A4 page) and the Gaga shade looks like St Germain / Snob but more Amplified or Cremesheen in texture and the Cyndi shade is reminiscent of Red She Said lippy, but a little more plummed-out perhaps? They are both limited life colours (not an official VG #7) on counter for 12-months (like the rotating semi-permanent mineralise eyeshadows). Words cannot describe how flippin’ excited I am about having Gaga theme days at work in April (Aust release date is April 12th)! "

They don't excite me at all! I think I'd be better off hunting for that Fergie Viva Glam 5 that I never got to pick up. What about you?

Review: Shu Uemura Primitribe Gel Liners

This is a reader requested review! I'm sorry that I haven't gotten to this until now, but I've been soo busy and tired :/. So I won't elaborate TOO much--if you have questions, I'll answer them in the comments. This will be a quicker read, because I've gotten feedback that readers don't like to do much reading and prefer pictures.

Price- 24USD for 2.8 grams or 0.098 oz. It seems like SO much money for the small pot, because Bobbi Brown's are 21USD for .1 oz and 3 grams. But honestly, shu owns you Bobbi, and I'm not just saying that because shu is god.

Consistency- Shu's is thicker than Bobbi's [which I'm using as a reference because it seems like many have tried hers] and creamier. The creamy texture of the shu as opposed to a more gel texture of Bobbi Brown's makes it easier to use as a cream eyeshadow--as the Primitribe eyeliners are supposed to be used as.

Colors: The primitribe gel liners are GORGEOUS. They are bright, they are rocking, they are perfect. This is what MAC aspires to be, what Make Up Forever does so well in matte finishes. I realize that most people won't wear this regularly [heck I think I've only used them a few times!] but I LOVE them. They're loud, and in your face, and obnoxious, but I love them! The colors Shu released with this collection are:

Spinel: Bright warm hot pink.
Turquoise: Bright medium blue-turned teal.
Citrine: Bright sunny yellow.
All of these are very pigmented and creamy.

Got creasing? Well, yes. I must note though that the actual gel liner product wasn't meant to be used all over the lid; just these colors were. Also, I was NOT wearing a primer, and if used like a regular eyeliner, these wear great on waterline and lid.

These are the only pictures I could pull up. I had a horrid camera--the pink is warmer, the blue is a bit warmer and more teal and the yellow is what I think of when I think 'lemon' yellow, but darker and more vivid. Delicious!

This one is an accurate pic:
This one is too, maybe slightly darker in real life.
I like the packaging--but how creative can you get with gel liners? Glass pot, check. Black lid, check. Limited edition design on the cover, check. I really like the design though :D.

Overall, if you love brights, then you need these. They are a dream to work with and are beautiful. In my opinion, totally worth the 24$ price tag, and work fast--these are limited edition!

Side note: Spinel is an Asia only release.

* Another side note: To get it to show up to this intensity on my eyes, I did have to layer. However, I was using a brush that sheers the product out. I think I used three sheer layers.

What do I use to apply/blend these puppies? A brush like this! It says 6m sable on the handle but I'm really not sure if its available as it was part of a set. I think it could also be used as a lip brush, but I find it gives great control over the color.

What do you think? Will you be picking up a Shu Uemura Primitribe gel liner?

MAC Colour Craft Swatches! Kind of.

Alright I've got the lipsticks and Mineralize blushes [missing Daft Pink as the MA was using it..grr]! The lipsticks are mostly lustres I think, I used several coats to get the colors to show up well / differentiate. The most pigmented were the brighter colors.
Ok, from Specktra, the finishes/official lipstick color descriptions:
  • Madly Creative - Pink neutral with white pearl (Frost)
  • Ever Embellish - Plum brown with red pearl (Lustre)
  • Made with Love - Bright coral pink (Lustre)
  • Colour Crafted - Milky pink (Frost)
  • Trimming Talk - Bright fuschia (Frost)
  • Most Popular - Purple with yellow undertone (Lustre) (Repromote: Hello Kitty)

The mineralize blushes, I was NOT a fan. They were sparkly! They weren't as buttery as last year's release either. Nice colours, but LE and a price tag of 21 bucks? Forget it.

I didn't swatch the shadows because the SA was eyeing me oddly at that time and I thought I should make a getaway and head off to the other counters to swatch. I can say they weren't as nicely textured as last years though, and nowhere near as pigmented. I think you could use those for a medium pigmented look though.

Review: MAC Bright Future eyeshadow

Bright Future shadow was released in the limited edition May 2009 MAC Style Warriors collection. It was getting a whole lot of press because it isn't often that MAC releases a bright color, and in the veluxe pearl formula too! Someone described it as being the color of 'Forever 21 bags', which is probably accurate.

I love the packaging for this collection! It's very apt to 'style warriors', being zebra and leopard print. I wish that the actual eyeshadow pots had leopard print on them though, rather than just being a complimentary olivey bronze. The clear window has a print on it too though.

The texture of Bright Future is a bit strange. It's not as buttery and creamy as other veluxe pearls are--it's a little dry. But it's extremely pigmented and with shimmer! Much better than some of MAC's previous collections. Here are comparision swatches:

I think the closest color it is to in my collection is Shu uemura ME300, but the shu is less yellow and has more sparkles. The She Space Shot the Messenger is also very close.

Bright Future doesn't show up as a IN YOUR FACE yellow; you'd have to really pack it on. If you haven't layered it, others can tell that it's yellow only when they're really zooming in, otherwise it just looks gold. On that note, it doesn't look chalky when you do layer it.

Like other MAC eyeshadows, this lasts all day without creasing with UDPP under it. Bright Future is the star of Style Warriors collection and a must-have for everyone. You'll pay 14.50$ for it at MAC counters globally.

MAC Style Warriors--Some Info

This collection comes out on 5/28/09, and here's some interesting new info on this collection!

The ''Style Warriors'' collection is an animal print based collection. It includes animal print bags with leopard, zebra and tiger prints. The usual packaging on products will be animal printed too. Here are a few of the products; this is not a color story, only some hints.

Eyeshadows
Night Maneuvers
Vibrant Grape (permanent pro)
Tempting ( seems to be permanent repromote)
Bright Future
Soft Force

Blushes
Eversun ( that used to be a beauty powder blush, so it is a repromote. )
On a Mission

Bronzing Powders
Refined Golden
Solar Riche

( Those bronzers are M.A.C. Classics - they were on the ''Neo Sci - Fi collection'' too. )

Credit goes out to Champnprincess @ Makeupalley. Thanks!

While I already have Solar Riche and Eversun, Vibrant Grape eyeshadow looks cool! I can't wait!

Review: MAC Quick Tease Lipglass

This would be the other end of my MAC Brunette Blonde Redhead 1/09 haul! Quick Tease is from the Brunette end of the collection. As I said in my Strawberry Blonde lipglass review, I love the idea of colors inspired by hair colors, but found that these two were the only ones worth picking up.

When swatches first arose, many people were eager to get Quick Tease because it was supposed to be the sister to Jampacked of Cult of Cherry, the lipglass that sold out incredibly quickly.

Well, I'm sorry, but it's not. However, it's a lighter, slightly sheerer, more wearable version of Jampacked. I think, what MAC had in mind for this color, if Jampacked was for full on gothic girl, Quick Tease would be for the timid sister tentatively testing it out.

It's a dark plum with a reddish tint. Super pretty, and gives my pigmented lips a darker, more sexy-esque look. However, for some reason this is sheerer than the permanent line of MAC lipglosses for some reason--maybe to keep with the 'timid sister' influence?

Unfortunately, MAC didn’t release special packaging for Brunette Blonde Redhead—which is to be expected as they don’t do special packaging for every collection. It would have been nicer than the normal gunmetal grey though.

The wand included with lipglasses is the typical doefoot wand, which dispenses color evenly and well!

MAC lip products do have a faint vanilla scent that I love, but scent-phobics beware!
Note: Both of the lipglasses were slightly separated at the top, near the base of the wand when it was BRAND NEW. I don’t know why that is, but it’s not smelling off, so I assume it’s fine.

This costs 14$ at maccosmetics.com or MAC locations near you. Great buy, and I don't recommend missing it!

Review: Stila Rock The Vote Red

(part of the stila Rock the Vote ad on stilacosmetics.com)

This is the color that Stila cosmetics designed intending to encourage people to 'rock the vote' or to go vote in the 2008 US elections.

What they say:
"Hit the polls wearing Rock the Vote Red! This election year, Stila has teamed up with Rock the Vote and created a powerful red lip color, to inspire all you Stila girls to exercise your right to vote. If you have not registered to vote yet, don't despair. Just click the register to vote icon to get started. Remember, casting your ballot is the only way to garentee your voice will be heard, and if you look incredibly glamorous at the same time, all the better!"
--taken from stilacosmetics.com

Wear: This gets a great score from me for wear. It wears well, and doesn't fade until the very last hours of the day. And when it fades, it fades evenly and leaves a really nice stain.

Color: I would say this is a yellow red with a slight hint of blue, if that makes sense! I think it would look great on a variety of skintones.
How it looks on NC20:

Comparisions: I find this pretty much a DEAD ON dupe for MAC Port Red, LE in Naughty Nauticals (May 2008). The only difference (so subtle however) is that Rock The Vote is a hint bluer. I also feel that the MAC is more moisturizing, and of course, more fragranced with that vanilla scent.
Top is MAC port Red, the bottom is Stila.

Texture: For those who have tried MAC frost lipsticks, I find it slightly firmer than that. It's super pigmented though, so a little will last a long way. This is a LOUD color! I don't think I would recommend it for those who are scared of red and just want to test out the waters. Part of the reason why I love it though is because of that obnoxious brightness.

Price: One of them will set you back 17$, which is an OK price. It's not cheap, or expensive, but middle of the road. However, I have heard reports of Stila lipsticks going back super quickly--if this happens to me I definetly will not repurchase, as 17$ for a lifetime of a few months is a ripoff! However, a percentage of the sales for this shade (not stated how much) will be given to Rock the Vote.

Packaging: This comes in Stila's signature enforced silver cardboard packaging. It's very chic, in my opinion, very sleek and pretty. I expected a little more design on the tube though, from Stila! I think it would be nice if they incorporated more of the Stila girls onto their packaging.

All in all, if you are looking for a dupe of the elusive MAC port red, or just in need of a great red, this is the red to go to! Order now, at stilacosmetics.com before December 14th, and you can get it before the holidays!

MAC Strawbaby

Oh. My. God. Nc25 and above ladies, you need this. Especially if you want a lippie that will brighten your face up. I had been lemming this for months after the 2/08 Fafi release, something like since June and July. When I managed to swap for this, I was *almost* disapointed when I opened it. It didn't look like all the pictures! But at first swipe across lips, it was love. The color description is a coral rose with rainbow pearl, in the lustre finish. Its pretty pigmented for a Lustre, and definetly pretty warm. The price was 14$, which is the regular price of MAC lippies. I probably wouldn't go to the trouble of hunting it down again because there probably are dupes out there, but I'd repurchase the shade anytime.

Left and Above (swatches) are MAC Lightly Ripe lipstick, Cult of Cherry collection.

Review: MAC Lightly Ripe Lipstick

This is a review for one of the lipsticks in MAC's August 22nd Cult of Cherry collection, Lightly Ripe. Of course, like 99% of what MAC brings out, this is LE.

Formula: This is in MAC's lustre formula, sheer but with two swipes you can get the full color. It's not the most moisterizing formula, still quite drying. I recommend exfoliating your lips first, since otherwise it'll feel very gritty on lips with the dead skin cells balling up.

Color: MAC Describes this as 'sheer midtone pink' which I suppose is good. However, it's definetly a warm pink, which I really like. It gives me healthy regular looking lips for the times when I wake up and my lips are pale.

Comparisions: In my opinion, this is the warmer version of MAC Party Mate, also LE from Mac's May Naughty Nauticals colection. While they're very mlbb, Party Mate is cooler and has silver sparkles, while Lightly ripe is rosier, berrier and has faint golden shimmer.

Packaging: This comes in MAC's regular gunmetal bullet packaging, which clicks on securely with a snap. It's not the most ingenious or fancy but it's nice and simple.

Price: 14.00 (or 15.50 now with tax) is not bad at all considering more and more lipsticks are 18-20s and even 34$ (YSL...).

Scent: This is scented lightly with Vanilla, like most MAC lip products. I can't smell it unless I'm turning my lips up to sniff though :P.

Lasting Ability: This easily lasts a few hours on me, however, due to the sheer nature it will need to be reapplied after eating.

How it looks on me:

(Natural cool light)
